Rio baseball adds Cooke
Rio Grande---University of Rio Grande head baseball coach Brad Warnimont had focused primarily on upgrading his pitching staff during the early portion of the recruiting period for 2009. His latest signing has addressed the offense with the signing of Jacob Cooke of Southeastern High School in South Charleston High School.

Redwomen have seven make All-AMC; Ross South POY
Cedarville---The University of Rio Grande women’s softball team had seven members of the 2008 squad earn All-American Mideast Conference South Division honors. Senior centerfielder and lead-off batter Jessica Ross captured South Division Player of the Year honors and freshman Kaci Dunn was selected to the All-Freshman team.

Four Redmen make All-AMC
Cedarville---Four members of the University of Rio Grande Redmen baseball team have been selected to the All-American Mideast Conference team. Sophomore catcher Tyler Plumpton (Peterborough, ONT) made 2nd team while three others were honorable mention.

Rio’s season ends
North Canton, OH---The University of Rio Grande softball team is finished for the 2008 season, falling short of the goal of a bid to NAIA National Tournament in Decatur, AL next week. After winning the first game on Thursday in the loser’s bracket, of the NAIA Region IX/X Tournament, with a 4-0 shutout over Ohio Dominican, eliminating the team that tied them with a 14-6 record in American Mideast Conference South Division play, Rio lost the second game, 4-3 to Mount Vernon Nazarene which ended the season for the Redwomen with a record of 27-17.

Redwomen begin post-season with split
North Canton, OH---The University of Rio Grande women’s softball team, the No. 2 seed at the NAIA Region IX/X Tournament began the post-season with an 8-0 victory over No. 7 St. Joseph’s (VT) in six innings, in the opening round of the tournament on Wednesday morning at Malone College. The lost to Notre Dame College in the second game, 7-6 in 11 innings.

Rio Grande---The University of Rio Grande women’s soccer program continued its busy recruiting season as they have added Tiffany Wegley from Gallia Academy and Tecumseh High School to the program. She signed her national letter of intent recently in the university’s Lyne Center booster room.

Redwomen draw No. 2 seed in Region Tournament
Rio Grande---The University of Rio Grande softball team is the No. 2 seed in the seven team NAIA Region IX/X Tournament. The winner gets a bid to the Nationals. Rio will play No. 7 seed College of St. Joseph out of Vermont at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Malone College.
